Our Rock Wall is a Puzzle

My husband Kelly has had to rebuild this rock wall 3 times now. He's determined and keeps making it more resilient each time. He starts with a pile of rocks...

... and fits them all together like a big 3D puzzle. The result is quite remarkable!

The Ridge

Take a few minutes walk through the woods at the back of our house and you'll arrive at the top of a hill overlooking an old quarry. Kelly started his own quarry - that man never seems to have enough dirt... or rocks. Last year he started constructing this garden. It's not complete (he has to quarry some more dirt) but it is filling up nicely. There's lilies in here and the lily beetles haven't found them yet.

Spring Shift

My husband Kelly has a rock puzzle to put together again this year as soon as the weather warms up. This will be his 3rd time rebuilding the dry stacked wall along our driveway. Spring in Nova Scotia means a cycle of freeze and thaw. Our roads are not the only thing impacted!

Introducing Little Stonehenge

Kelly has a propensity for moving big rocks around.  Since mid-summer he has been excavating the woods behind our garage.  Somewhere along the way we started calling it 'Little Stonehenge'.  What started out as a big pile of rocks has become, well, a more organized pile of rocks.  This upright rock above stands at the foot of the flipflop path.  He has it propped up to look like a console from the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, or perhaps a DHD from StarGate.  I have to admit that I think many of his ideas are a little nuts but they always turn out, umm, interesting at the least.  This whole area is still under construction but a few plants are in and next year we should see a few blooms among the rocks.
